Bus and Train Service Summary
Buses link Port
St Mary with Port Erin [some] (8 minutes), Castletown (16/26 minutes), Airport (23/33
minutes), Ballasalla (26/36 minutes), Douglas (50/60
minutes). There are two services an hour during the day, hourly in the evening. Some travel "direct" to Castletown via Shore Rd. The
Sound (15 minutes) and Cregneash
(10 minutes) are
served by a seperate service which runs from Port Erin via the Harbour
and Plantation Road to Cregneash and the Sound (service 28 [not during the Winter]).

The buses to Douglas serve the shopping
area, then most travel along the Promenade. Alight at first stop on the promenade for the horse tram
terminus. The horse trams travel along the promenade to the Electric Railway at Derby Castle. If
using the bus to travel to the Electric Railway then alight at the end
of the Queens promenade it is a short walk to the Electric Railway. Many services to
Port St Mary come along the promenade, call at Lord Street then travel past the
north end of the Steam Railway station along Lord St and Peel Rd. Check the bus timetable to find which buses serve the promenade.
The Steam
Railway runs from Easter to October from Port Erin via Port St Mary to
Castletown (22 minutes), Ballasalla (30 minutes), Port Soderick (46 minutes)
and Douglas (57 minutes). There are 4/5
services in each direction. The Steam
Railway is about 10 minutes walk from Mallmore. Train tickts and Island Explorer tickets can be purchased from the station using either cash or cheques.
The Steam
Railway station in Douglas is adjacent to Tesco. After alighting
from the train turn right for connecting bus services along the promenade. It is a short 10
minute walk to the shopping area or to the sea terminal where the horse trams
can be joined for a journey along the Promenade to the Electric Railway.
Service 8 links Castletown with Peel via the Airport, Ballasalla and St Johns (service 8 [not Winter Sundays]). Connections are available from Port St Mary and Port Erin.
From Douglas, bus services are available to Peel, Ramsey via Laxey, Ramsey via Peel. The
Electric Railway runs from Douglas to Ramsey via Laxey, and the Mountain Railway runs from Laxey to
the summit of Snaefell.
The horse trams run from the Sea Terminal
to the Electric Railway terminus at Derby Castle. Explorer tickets are valid, otherwise a flat
single fare is charged Tickets are purchased from the
conductor. When
joining or alighting at intermediate stops the conductor will ensure that the
passing traffic is stopped. The
trams run from May to September during the day. End to end journey
time is between 15 and 20 minutes.
