Getting to the Isle of Man
You can travel to the Isle of Man either by ferry or by flying.
Flying
The airport is situated in the South end of the island near to Castletown, there are good bus links, taxis, car hire and plenty of car parking space.
Ferry
The ferry company the Isle of Man Steam Packet
runs ferries all year from Heysham (near Lancaster) and Liverpool
(not winter) to Douglas, the capital of the Island.
In addition for part of the year there are also sailings to
Belfast and Dublin.
The Steam Packet caters for both car and foot passengers and has a number of special deals available.
There is a direct daytime rail link between Heysham and Lancaster where
connections are available to most parts of the UK. This link runs
Mondays to Saturdays and Summer Sundays.
Foot passengers traveling to/from Liverpool can either walk, take a taxi or Merseyrail train (James St or Morrfields)
to/from the Coach station, Lime St and Central stations.
There are some excellent through sail/rail
tickets to/from every
station in the UK. This is done on a zonal basis and railcard
discounts are available. Tickets can be booked at staffed
railways stations in the UK or with the Steam Packet Company.
See here for more information
For foot passengers traveling from
Belfast, the Steam Packet berth is the former Stena terminal, Albert Quay (BT3 9SS)
, 900 yds from Yorkgate station.
Traveling from the Dublin the berth is at Dublin port and is
either a taxi or a local bus from the centre of Dublin (there are
buses timed to meet the Irish Ferries sailings and these sometimes
coincide with the Isle of Man sailings).
More information for foot passengers is available here.
